Community Benefit Proposal: Tackling Food Deserts in South Dallas
|
In my Business Communications course at UT Dallas, we were tasked with developing a Mock Community Benefit Proposal to the Dallas Regional Chamber of Commerce on behalf of the community wellness initiative of our chosen business: State Farm. The issues we sought to fix were the food deserts pervading South Dallas and Oak-cliff.
Since then, I have reached out to State Farm's Neighborhood for Good Initiative (NGI) with the goal of making this proposal a reality. I am currently deliberating with the local State Farm NGI Director on combating this issue.

Society of Sustainable Business - Vice President
In a partnership with The Ann & Jack Graves Foundation, and the UT Dallas Center of Global Business, the Society of Sustainable Business has started The Africa Initiative: a project in which we are tackling poverty and industrial waste by helping impoverished women in the Tigray region of Ethiopia to develop small sustainable businesses as well as educate the communities on instituting sustainability into their current and/or future business endeavors.
As one of the executives in the organization and the project planning committee, my personal objectives include co-directing brainstorming sessions, further developing the organizational vision, analyzing the impact that sustainability has on population health, and unearthing the potential utility instituting a health system might have.
